Movement: A real Datejust has a smooth-sweeping second hand (automatic movement). If the hand makes a visible ticking jump every second, it is a fake (or uses a cheap quartz movement).
Cyclops Lens: The bubble over the date should magnify the number 2.5 times clearly. Many fakes have poor or no true magnification.
Weight: A genuine Rolex is made with solid materials (904L steel) and should feel heavy and substantial. A light watch is a red flag.
Engravings (Rehaut): Look at the metal ring inside the crystal edge (rehaut). Modern Rolexes have a clear, sharp engraving of "ROLEX" that perfectly aligns with the hour markers.
Etched Crown: Since 2002, there is a tiny, laser-etched Rolex crown logo on the crystal at the 6 o'clock position. It is very hard to see without a magnifier.
